What is beat ghost production?

A beat ghost producer makes songs for artists without being mentioned in the credits. They waive all copyright after an artist pays the ghost producer a flat fee. The artist is then entitled to all royalties from further use of the beat.

Beat ghost producers sell to artists using a written agreement detailing the terms of the deal in relation to copyright, publishing, and associated rights. For example, a beat ghost producer sends over some beat demos to the buyer, who decides which ones they want to rap over. They choose the beats they want and then buy the entire rights to them.

‘Regular’ producers commonly collaborate on a beat with an artist, often working together on a specific element of the production, like bassline or drums. In this case, they will usually be credited as a co-producer. Beat ghost producers, on the other hand, get no credit at all.

Beat ghost production is still in its infancy in the hip hop, rap, and RnB industry. But it's absolutely legit! Although, it’s important to choose your beat ghost producer carefully and make sure your agreement is super clear and your contract has all the necessary detailed terms and conditions.
